Communications Intern
1 FTE Contract (April 27, 2026 to April 27, 2027) Thunder Bay Site
One of a network of provincial community health centres, the NorWest Community Health Centres is a community based, non-profit organization funded by Ontario Health, emphasizing access to primary health care and prevention programs and services.
Working with our Communications Lead, you will connect communities across our sites in Thunder Bay, Kakabeka, Longlac, and Armstrong with our vital services. In this hands-on role, you will gain direct healthcare communications experience by creating online content, designing materials in Canva, producing videos, and promoting our programs and events. Your work will directly contribute to the well-being of the communities we serve.
The hourly range for this position is $23.053 to $27.775. We currently do not use AI to screen resumes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a post-secondary program in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva) and video production tools (e.g. Capcut)
Strong knowledge of social media platforms and digital communication trends.
Strong writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail.
Experience with website content management systems (e.g., WordPress) is a strong asset.
Knowledge and proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel/MS Word)
A creative, collaborative, and organized individual with a positive attitude.
Familiarity with the Thunder Bay community is highly desirable.
A genuine interest in community health, social justice, and health equity.
Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle and ability to travel to other service locations is preferred
Eligibility:
This is a NOHFC funded opportunity. The applicant must be 18 years of age or older and reside in Northern Ontario, and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Applicants may include individuals who are newly entering the workforce, transitioning to a new career, or who are unemployed or underemployed and entering a new field. Indigenous applicants (including First Nation, Métis, or Inuit) from Northwestern Ontario are encouraged to apply.
The applicant must not have previously participated in the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) People and Talent Program.
