About Us:

Beitel Tax Law is a rapidly growing Canadian tax law boutique focused on serving small and medium-sized businesses. We are seeking a summer student to join us for the long term with the potential to grow into an experienced associate as the organization grows. We want someone who can develop alongside us.
Our internal culture is intellectually vibrant, with constant in-depth discussions of legal strategies, ideas, and tactics. This means that even when a client works with a single lawyer, they benefit from the collective expertise of our entire team. You will work closely with senior lawyers, gaining direct experience in tax litigation, advisory and planning. Students become an integral part of our collaborative team from day one.

To Apply & Our Process

Please submit your cover letter, resume, law school transcripts, a list of anticipated upper year courses and undergraduate transcripts at https://btl.applytojobs.ca, attention to Caroline Elias

Beitel Tax Law will not be participating in the on-campus interviews portion of the Summer Student recruitment process. We will be contacting all successful candidates on October 17, 2025, at 3 PM EST (Call Day) by telephone call, pursuant to the Law Society of Ontario rules. All unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email on October 17, 2025, by 8 PM EST. If you do not hear from us, please feel free to reach out to Caroline Elias at [email protected].

Cocktail Event

We will be hosting an informal cocktail hour on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM for some light snacks and drinks at our downtown Toronto office. If you are interested in attending and learning more about the firm, please RSVP here by July 4, 2025. We will send updated information on the event closer to the date!
We also encourage you to reach out to any of our students. You can find their information on the BTL Website.

About BTL

Beitel Tax Law assists entrepreneurs and private companies by:
  • Representing them in conflicts with the Canada Revenue Agency;
  • Designing and executing tax plans; and
  • Advising on tax law and tax issues.
Our philosophy is to think less like lawyers, and more like entrepreneurs. Therefore, the advice we provide to clients is not just about the technical aspects of the law, but the practical solutions available. None of our lawyers practice any areas of law other than tax, and most have spent their entire careers practicing exclusively in tax.
We have a strong focus on work-life balance and the long-term development of the lawyers at our firm. We have among the lowest billable hour targets in the industry because we want our lawyers to learn, train, and sharpen their skills on our time, rather than theirs. We also have our students at a $0/hour rate, enabling them to get exposure to all file types. We have an in-house mentorship program for our associates and a full-time practice innovation lawyer focused on adopting new technologies and improving our processes. Additionally, all students and associates receive regular coaching from an external writing coach and the firm covers CPA In-Depth for associates to ensure lawyers at BTL develop the skills to succeed in the long term.
Even if we don’t think like (traditional) lawyers, we are still obsessed with the law. Our lawyers have been cited by the Supreme Court of Canada and we publish Beitel Tax Disputes for the Owner Manager quarterly for Thomson Reuters. Our internal chat buzzes throughout the day with in-depth discussions of legal ideas, strategies, and tactics, meaning that even if our clients are represented by only one lawyer, they benefit from the experience of all.
We think we’re building something innovative and different in tax law. Check us out:

Our Core Values

Collaboration
We thrive by sharing knowledge, opportunities, and ideas freely inside and outside our organization. We prosper through building relationships rather than controlling resources. By learning from others, we expand beyond our own limits, striving for excellence together. Success or failure is a team effort, not an individual pursuit.
Excellence
We recognize that mastering our craft is a lifelong pursuit and that excellence is a process rather than a result. We prefer being right to having been right and, therefore, accept constructive criticism with gratitude. We expect our teammates to hold us to the highest standards and help us achieve them.
Innovation
We innovate continuously, believing there is always a better way. Through experimentation, we learn from both success and failure. Sometimes, progress comes in small steps; other times, it comes through bold change. We embrace a practical, evidence-based approach driven by real-world experience.
Care
We strive to provide our team members the time, flexibility, and resources they need to fulfill their care responsibilities, including self-care. We recognize that health and sustainability require an investment of time and energy, which is incompatible with an excessive workload. We also seek as an organization to fulfill our responsibility to care for our community through pro bono initiatives, knowledge sharing and inclusivity.
Integrity
We uphold professionalism, honesty, respect, fairness, and accountability in all we do. Our responsibilities to clients, colleagues, the courts, and society guide our actions. We prioritize clear, honest communication and treat everyone with respect. Recognizing when we occupy positions of power, we strive for fairness, balancing others’ interests with our own.

BTL is an equal-opportunity employer, and we welcome and encourage applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available upon request for candidates participating in all aspects of the selection process. Please inform us within your application if you require any accommodations, and every effort will be made to meet your needs.
