Position: Summer Planning InternDivision: Community ServicesDepartment: Community StandardsTerm: 1 Temporary Full Time position available for approximately 4 months.Closing Date: 03/25/2025Labour Group: CUPE 59Posting: 4142Job SummaryThis position assists professional planners in the Community Standards department with on-going projects and public-policy related research.Duties & Responsibilities
- Qualified individuals hired for a student Planning Internship will undertake and assist with planning-relatedactivities pertaining to community planning, land use research, data and information collection, mapping, report preparation, safety initiatives, license reviews, site inspections, community consultation and other related duties as required.
- The proposed positions will provide practical planning experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Research, program and policy development.
- Demographic analysis and database management.
- Geographic Information Systems.
- Community planning.
- Bylaw administration and enforcement.
- Community consultation.
QualificationsEducation, Training and Experience Requirement
- Completion of two years’ university with current enrollment in a Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) recognized planning program, or a related field of study.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Knowledge and experience working with various standard Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, and Access.
- Experience with POSSE database applications would be an asset
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member, using solid analytical and organizational skills.
