HDR is currently seeking applications from motivated engineering students for a four-month (or longer) placement at our downtown Toronto office. The successful candidate will work on various projects related to building structural systems for different structures, gaining exposure to all aspects of the building engineering industry.

HDR will support the candidate’s growth by providing mentorship and opportunities to learn from subject matter experts across the company.

Job Responsibilities

  • Gain real-world experience on diverse projects
  • Engage with recent graduates and company leaders through mentoring and professional programs
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Perform design calculations and develop sketches and drawings
  • Review and interpret documentation for construction activities
  • Participate in field reviews and investigations
  • Prepare onsite observation reports
  • Perform additional duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years completed toward degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Knowledge of relevant software packages
  • Quick learner and independent worker
  • Team-oriented with strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency in CAD software like Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu
  • Experience with structural analysis programs such as SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, RAM
  • Understanding of structural principles for steel, concrete, and masonry
  • Previous experience with an engineering firm

Required Qualifications

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate engineering program
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office
