Mechanical Engineering Intern (September 2025)
Kepler is on an audacious mission to deliver Internet connectivity to space, creating the infrastructure to support the rapidly increasing data needs of the space economy. With 23 satellites launched to date and our optical constellation on the horizon, our ambition is to improve access to space-generated data, whether in LEO, MEO, GEO, or beyond! Kepler is hard at work innovating and continuing to grow and expand our most important asset – the Team!We invest heavily to deliver the best products to our customers, and so we’re on the hunt for top-tier Mechanical Engineering Intern. Your focus will be on assisting the development and test of mechanical systems, specifically hardware related to our space-based communications payloads, ground-based assets, and support equipment.Position Responsibilities:
- Support design and prototype activities on various subsystems
- Own design activities including CAD design, drawing generation, supporting calculation and analysis
- Work closely with the wider engineering team to generate cross-functional solutions
- Participate in design review and test planning processes
- Perform functional and performance testing on integrated sub-systems or mechanisms as part of prototype bring up
- Participate in pathfinding activities, new process planning, and design specification development
Position Requirements:
- 3+ years in a mechanical, mechatronics, or equivalent engineering degree program
- Coursework in structural dynamics and heat transfer
- Experience with one or more CAD tools (Solidworks, OnShape, Autodesk 360, etc.)
- Familiar with manufacturing processes and design for manufacture practices
- Comfortable in a lab environment and experience safely using hand and power tools
- Ability to work in a team and independently with little supervision
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program and returning to studies after the internship
- Available for a full-time, 12 or 16 month internship beginning September 2025
- Able to work on-site at Kepler’s Toronto office (24 Ward Street) five days per week
Bonus Points:
- Experience in a University design team or building mechanisms for a personal project
- Familiarity with FEA tools (Solidworks FEA, Ansys, Simcenter, etc.)
- Coursework in mechanism design, kinematics, and / or controls
- Experience on university design teams (CubeSat, Rover, etc.)
