Application Deadline 04/24/2025Position SummaryReporting to a Manager of Policy, the Intern will provide program related assistance to the Policy Section. This is a 4-month contract position.Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Undertake research and analysis related to the development of land use policy and guidance documents to assist with updating of the City’s Official Plan and other policy planning projects;
- Monitor and report on relevant Provincial/Regional land use planning trends and issues;
- Undertake detailed statistical analysis and modelling of existing and potential development on a site specific and City-wide scale using appropriate software supplied by the City;
- Assist with preparing for internal/external meetings and public consultation events;
- Perform clerical duties such as organizing files/documents, preparing meeting minutes etc. as needed;
- Attend meetings and events related to policy planning projects.
Education and Experience
- Recent graduate, or currently enrolled in graduate or undergraduate post-secondary program in urban and regional planning, geography or other related field.
Required Skills/Knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp, GIS, and related software is an asset.
- Strong organization skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Ability to effectively handle demanding customer expectations and respond quickly to changing priorities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with a wide range of stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrate the City’s corporate values.
- Available to work outside of regular business hours, if needed
- Possess a valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license.
- Provide own transportation to conduct site visits (mileage compensated).
- You will be required to provide proof of vehicle insurance
