Plain’s intern opportunities have been specifically designed to provide students the opportunity to apply their academic studies and gain valuable experience through meaningful and challenging work.Plains has a great opportunity for a highly motivated student to join our Sarnia NGL Fractionation team for an 8–month term position beginning on May 5, 2025. The opportunity is in our Instrumentation & Control Department working with a mix of Apprentice and Journeyman Electricians and Instrumentation and Control Technicians.Responsibilities:

  • Follow Plains Midstream Canada’s 10 life rule policy;
  • Be adequately rested and fit for work prior to starting shift;
  • Comply with Plains Midstream drug and alcohol policies;
  • Promote and participate in “the Safety Awareness culture” through the use and awareness of the Authorization to Work and Job Hazard Analysis processes.
  • Satisfactorily complete all assigned HSSE, regulatory and company-specified training requirements;
  • Must wear all site required PPE
  • With supervision, troubleshoot and repair pressure, flow, level and temperature process control loops.
  • With supervision, complete routine maintenance and calibrations on pressure, flow, level and temperature instruments
  • With supervision, complete routine maintenance and calibrations on various process analyzers (Gas Chromatographs, TOC analyzers, Oxygen analyzers)
  • With supervision, troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits on motors and other electrical infrastructure on site.
  • Participate in Preventative Maintenance Program and support the further improvement of the program.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in full-time studies in a post-secondary institution, working towards a Instrumentation & Control Engineering Technology (ICET) Diploma.
  • Preference will be given to candidates returning to full-time studies upon completion of the work term.
  • Candidates must be able to commit to in person work for the full 8-month term (May 5, 2025 – December 31, 2025) to be considered;
  • Interns must be able and willing to relocate themselves to Sarnia and reside within 100KM of plant for the entire duration of the work term;
  • Both formal and non-formal co-op students are eligible to apply;
  • Previous work terms are considered an asset;
  • A self-starter who is driven to learn;
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment;
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and organizational skills;
  • Proficiency with computer applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook and Maximo, is considered an asset;
  • Proven flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing business conditions;
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to work well within a team environment;
  • Successful candidate must provide satisfactory references, a clean drivers abstract and complete a Criminal Background Check; and
  • Compliance with the Company’s drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment D&A testing.
