Job Description
The Total Fund Management Department:
In Total Fund Management (“TFM”), we are building the capabilities to enable a consistent framework for the long-term management of the firm’s investment strategy. TFM consists of four groups: Trading; Exposure, Leverage, and Liquidity Management (ELLM); Portfolio Design and Construction (PD&C); and Applied Research and Models (ARM).
The trading team is responsible for centralized trading to manage execution risk across all public assets (excluding credit) and markets on behalf of all investment departments. Trading is organized into three teams: Equities; Fixed Income, Currency and Commodities (FICC); and Investment Engineering / Analytics.
We are currently recruiting a Trading intern in the TFM department, for a four-month internship from May to August 2025. Candidates in an undergraduate co-op program or non-co-op program who will be graduating in December 2025 or later are eligible to apply.
Trading Description
The work done will vary by role/team, but will broadly include:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Analyzing trade execution data in order to gain insights and improve trading decisions.
- Developing tools to assist or improve efficiency of the day-to-day aspects of trading.
- Investigation and building reports on topics such as broker or algorithm performance, execution performance on behalf of investment departments, and overall trading activity.
- Research on topics such as market liquidity, positioning, trading costs, and trade execution.
- Opportunity to learn about markets and trading via day-to-day activities on the desk and interactions with traders.
Qualifications
Position Requirements:
- The ideal candidate will be graduating from an undergraduate program in December 2025 (or later) and is working towards a degree in a STEM or business field.
- The team works in a dynamic interactive environment which requires the candidate to have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Interest in trading/finance/investment management.
- Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
- Experience with some programming languages (such as C++/Java, R, VBA, Matlab, or Python).
- Knowledge using databases (MySQL, SQL Server, or Oracle).
- Candidates must exemplify CPP Investments’ guiding principles of high performance, integrity, and partnership.
