Reporting to the Supply & Install Manager, responsibilities for this position include the following:

  1. Be the first point of customer contact, understand customer needs, and direct customers regarding the construction of projects.
  2. Develop relationships and promote high-level customer satisfaction through trust, service, and integrity.
  3. Maintain professional business relationships with 3rd party stakeholders such as vendors and suppliers.
  4. Become familiar with all lines of merchandise handled in the Home Centre and maintain a high level of product knowledge.
  5. Respond to customer inquiries by email and phone in a timely fashion.
  6. Open and close the Home Centre as directed by the Unit Manager.
  7. Place special orders with suppliers to fill customer requirements.
  8. Forward information regarding deliveries to the shipper.
  9. Be responsible for accurate billing of all merchandise sold by the employee.
  10. Investigate and adjust customer complaints regarding products and services, referring serious matters to the department manager.
  11. Provide accurate and timely estimates on projects including additions, renovations, garage packages, and small projects.
  12. Assist in preparing and maintaining reports as required.
  13. Assist on the service counter or on the sales floor as required.
  14. Perform any administrative duties as required.
  15. Maintain a constant alert against the unauthorized removal of merchandise.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Must possess a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Hardware and Building Materials.
  2. Must possess a recognized estimator certificate or equivalent experience.
  3. Must have sufficient experience in building materials and construction methods to operate effectively in all areas of the department.
  4. Must be strongly service-oriented and motivated, capable of serving and assisting customers in a courteous and efficient manner.
  5. Must be well organized and capable of attaining a high level of production with minimum supervision.
  6. Must be prepared to increase product knowledge and improve selling techniques through special courses, product clinics, and training sessions.
  7. Applicants must be proficient in computer-based sales software and programs (Seljax, Quotetracker).
  8. Possess a sufficient working knowledge of the Saskatoon and National Building Codes.
  9. Possess the ability and experience in professional selling.
  10. Must be able to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
  11. A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
