They may also support emerging projects in other areas such as telecommunications, industrial electrical, substations, and renewable energy.Primary responsibilities
- Help perform design tasks for projects such as pole line analysis (PLA) for telecommunication and electric utility poles
- Support the development of design and construction standards for various distribution and transmission applications
- Assist in the preparation of calculations, drawings, construction and work packages and other project base deliverables
- Assist in the preparation of technical inputs for reports, specifications, proposals, project schedules and cost estimates
- Communicate with client stakeholders for various aspects of the project, including regular communication about project progress
- Perform site visits to validate scope requirements and determine existing assets condition and prepare site survey reports
- Help ensure design work conforms to all applicable national codes and client standards
- Utilize client based geographic information systems (GIS) and other records for data collection during the design process; produce bill of material and enter material acquisition requests in the GIS
- Coordinate with utility companies, all levels of government agencies, municipalities, and other companies and institutions
- Perform and assist with additional duties and tasks based on project requirements and other job functions as assigned
Qualifications
- Student presently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, from a recognized institution
- Experience with AutoCAD
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under pressure, independently and in a team setting
- Client focused, detail oriented, eager to learn and motivated with strong problem solving and multitasking ability
- Excellent skills with the Microsoft 365 platform (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Valid British Columbia Class 5 driving license or equivalent from another province is required
- Experience with electric utility distribution or transmission standards (asset)
- Experience working with PLS-CADD, SPIDAcalc, Pull Planner, CYME or other utility software (asset)
- Working knowledge of a GIS (Graphical Information System) such as ArcGIS, GE SmallWorld, or similar (asset)
The salary for this position ranges from $24.00 to $30.45 per hour, depending on your academic profile, the number of credits earned, and your previous co-op or internship experience.
