The Opportunity

We are currently seeking Environmental/Chemical Engineering Co-op Students to join our Environment Team in Sudbury.

The opportunities are fixed term co-op positions, 4 months in duration, beginning on May 5th, 2025.

As an Environmental/Chemical Engineering Co-op Student, you will undertake the duties required to assist the Environment department mainly in the air quality regulatory requirements. Although previous experience in mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences – and that’s what makes us great!

Additionally, in this position you will:

  1. Follow Vale’s Safety Policies, Programs and Legislative Standards.
  2. Prepare and implement a personal safety plan.
  3. Work collaboratively with site personnel to ensure compliance with all facility traffic plans and site-specific safety requirements.
  4. Implement focused monitoring and sampling programs related to air quality (road dust sampling, SO2 mobile sampling, in-plant TSP monitoring, etc.) independently as assigned.
  5. Data screening and analysis for field data.
  6. Manage and assess data on an ongoing basis.
  7. Prepare comprehensive technical reports for each project assigned.
  8. Use engineering principles and education to update or suggest any improvements to the monitoring programs or procedures, including any new software now being used in academia.
  9. Have other opportunities to see Vale’s operation and learn about environmental projects/activities.

About You

Education:

  • Completed second year or third year and will be enrolled in a post-secondary program related to Environmental Engineering or Chemical Engineering or Environmental Science for the completion of their studies.

Skills:

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well with others in a team environment.
  • Maintain a high level of professional conduct.
  • Must be obsessed with safety and risk.
  • Demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work.
  • Ability to do outdoor physical work.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite of Programs (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS or other spatial analysis software is an asset.
  • Must have a valid G Driver’s License.
