The McMichael Canadian Art Collection ranks among Canada’s top public galleries in size and significance. The building — including exhibition, programming, office and mechanical spaces is surrounded by a network of outdoor trails, sculpture garden and 100 acres of conservation land with breathtaking views of the Humber Valley. Over 6,500 works of art representing the art of Canada comprise the permanent collection, and the gallery welcomes on average more than 115,000 visitors annually. As a public institution, the McMichael is committed to delivering exceptional visitor experience throughout our grounds and facilities.Under the Young Canada Works at building Careers in Heritage programme, The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is recruiting for a Collections Intern, for a termed contract from May 20, 2025 through to March 31, 2026.The scope of the Intern’s work will consist of participating in integral behind the scenes tasks conducting counts and inventory checks of the gallery’s permanent collection, confirming/updating storage and temporary location records for all objects within the collections management database, generating and maintain reports within the collections management database, documentation, photography, packing objects (where required/time allows) and administering rights and reproductions requests.The successful candidate will have knowledge of standard collection management practices and handling and storage techniques within a mixed collection, which they will further develop by assessing works as needed to prepare them for packing/storing and updating/confirming records within the McMichael’s collection management database.Project activities will take place at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg, Ontario and at two commercial off-site storage facilities used by the McMichael.
