Job Description
GDMS–C has an opportunity for a student to join for our growing Naval Sonar Systems business area in Fall 2025, based onsite out of our Ottawa facility. Our products deliver leading edge Underwater Warfare capabilities, designing, building, and supporting mission critical systems currently deployed at sea on Royal Canadian Navy warships and other International Navy customers.
The responsibilities and range of activities may vary, but in general will include:
- Assisting and supporting lead engineers and team members
- Performing basic design and/or analysis functions based on requirements
- Documenting the analysis, design and test in accordance with development standards
- Implementing software routines to meet the requirements
- Developing and performing tests
- Identifying defects, resolving issues and performing verification
- Supporting and performing system level test and integration efforts
- Participating in code reviews
Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience:
- Experience working on software development projects
- Experience using Java or C/C++ programming
- Experience with software engineering processes and tools
- Experience with any of the following development tools are highly desirable:
- Git
- Linux
- SCRUM/Agile
- Excellent communication and time management skills
- Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills
- Enthusiastic contributor, willingness to learn new skills and takes on ownership of work
- Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, with minimum supervision
Education
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent
Security
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
