Laboratory Technician (Co-op)

This position involves the testing of asphalt cement, emulsion, and related materials for the construction industry. Responsibilities involve the assistance of laboratory testing and evaluation of bituminous products for use in paving, coatings, and other industrial applications. QC/QA support for production operations would be required.

Primary Scope of Role:

• Review, analyze and compare test results with specifications, tolerances, and targets to ensure product quality. Report test results and any deviations or trends immediately to the appropriate department and / or supervisor(s). Follow up to ensure the appropriate actions have taken place.
• Assist with the set-up, calibration, and maintenance of inspection, measuring and testing equipment in the laboratory as well with the general operation of the laboratory.
• Documentation and review of quality reports and information

Position Requirements:

• Applicant needs to be a current student or graduate in a chemistry, chemical Engineering, civil engineering technologist, or a related program.
• Experience in such areas as asphalt cement, emulsion testing and product development would be an asset.
• Valid G class license with good driving record
• Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint an asset.
• Able to work well as part of a team and independently.
• Results-driven with an ability to deliver success in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to connect and interact with people to seek different perspectives.
• Superb communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple competing priorities.
• Demonstrate versatility and resourcefulness in overcoming business challenges.
