We invite you to apply if you are ready to take the next step.Job OverviewOur Burnaby, BC location designs, manufactures, and tests industrial pumps for a wide variety of industries. Our test department is responsible for the engineering design and operation of high-power centrifugal pump tests. These tests are a crucial step in validating the acceptable performance of our products prior to shipment.With increasing workload, and major upcoming projects, we’re seeking an intern/co-op student to support our test department while gaining valuable, challenging, and exciting work experience.Job Activities & Learning Opportunities:
- 3D Modeling: Create detailed models of test area and test setups.
- System Design: Assist in designing new high-capacity test loop, including:
- Thermal analyses to determine cooling requirements.
- Select equipment based on pressure, temperature, and flow rate needs.
- Produce design drawings, piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and schematics.
- Hands-On Work: Visit the shop to visualize/layout/take measurements for test setups and new high-capacity test loop design.
- Manufacturing Drawings: Produce drawings for test parts such as drive couplings, shafts, flange adapter plates, custom piping components, etc.
- Performance Testing: Assist with preparing pump performance test documents:
- Create test procedure documents which outline test scope to the customer.
- Review and format data taken during performance tests including performance curves, data tables, vibration spectrum plots, etc.
- Produce pump performance curves showing flow rate, head, power, efficiency, and NPSHR.
Requirements:
- Enrolled in Mechanical (preferred), Chemical, Systems or related Engineering program (third or fourth year preferred).
- Strong understanding of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics demonstrated by relevant projects and/or excellent academic performance.
- Experience with Inventor 3D CAD software or similar.
- Familiarity with GD&T and manufacturing drawings, with a focus on design for manufacturability.
- Strong communications skills, able to tailor information for the intended audience, e.g., engineers, project managers, shop staff, or non-technical personnel.
