We have an opportunity for one (1) Actuarial Science co-op student to join the Actuarial Services team for eight (8) months. We are looking for a student that is hardworking, willing to take initiative, and is up for a challenge!

In this role, you will support the Actuarial Services team in developing and utilizing tools to properly value benefits and measure risk. You will be involved in providing technical support on non-routine and high-risk benefit calculations and developing tools to support the Plan’s growth initiative.

We are looking for students with the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Currently enrolled in an Actuarial Science program or a related field and writing actuarial exams.
  • Previous work experience in pension valuation and/or administration is preferred.
  • Strong technical skills in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Outlook.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and shift priorities in a deadline driven atmosphere.
  • Strong project and time management skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Once here:

  • You will receive training on CAAT Plan provisions, regulatory environment and calculations involved in Defined Benefit pension plans.
  • You will build and maintain detailed knowledge of Plan provisions and administrative practices to enable you to provide support on complex administrative calculations.
  • In conjunction with the policy team, prepare responses to questions submitted by Plan staff or stakeholders.
  • You will be a key member of the actuarial services team supporting the improvement of existing calculators and bringing forth recommendations on new tools.
  • You will work with Member Services, Quality Assurance and Employer Services teams to resolve complex pension related issues.
  • You will support strategic initiatives by providing actuarial analysis.
  • You will demonstrate creativity and innovation with problem solving and identify opportunities to improve processes.
  • You will participate in team building and networking events.
