Canadian National Railway Company (CN) is looking for a highly motivated person to fulfill a full-time (40h/week) Intern, Fuel (Energy) position in Montreal, QC from May – Aug 2025.

Job Summary

The Intern, Fuel Productivity – Network Operations is responsible for working along with the Fuel Productivity team focused on being more productive with CN’s fuel utilization. The incumbent collaborates with the team to measure the impacts of CN’s fuel-saving initiatives and identifies new opportunities for improvement using data generated by on-board locomotive systems.

Major Responsibilities

Measure Fuel Benefits via Improved Aerodynamics on Intermodal Trains

· Gain an understanding of available data

· Review research to develop CN’s specific hypothesis

· Interview stakeholders to add context

· Analyze historical data to evaluate opportunities

· Calculate costs and benefits

· Develop and present actionable recommendation

Identify New Areas of Opportunity for Fuel Savings

· Interview stakeholders to identify areas to investigate

· Analyze historical data to uncover patterns or unexpected behaviour

· Assess opportunity and detail required changes

· Develop and present actionable recommendations

Other Tasks

· Meet with team members for a daily status update and to get questions answered

· Present a weekly status update

· Present findings

 

Requirements

· Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Tableau, Power BI, Business Objects or similar tools

· Ability to create and modify Structured Query Language (SQL) queries

· Strong ability for extracting insight from data

Education

· Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or similar discipline
